With the page turned horizontally, the viewpoint is south-west of the small Baroque pilgrimage church of St Salvator, set on a platform approached by steep steps above the River Danube just east of Donaustauf. The classical Walhalla memorial is seen on the skyline to the east, with a continuation from the right of the main drawing at the top right, looking down the broad valley. Compare the Walhalla’s architect Leo von Klenze’s idealised 1839 painting Salvatorkirche zu Donaustauf und Walhalla (Museen der Stadt, Regensburg); the hillside is now thickly wooded.
