With the page turned horizontally, the view is north-east from the sweeping bend of the River Danube south of Donaustauf, with its hilltop castle ruins across the broad valley on the left, and the pilgrimage church of St Salvator lightly indicated below. On the crest near the centre is the imposing classical form of the Walhalla memorial, below which the river flows downstream through open country to the right, and the hills overlooking it further east are continued above near the outer edge. The subject was identified by Cecilia Powell.1
