This view east along Würzburg’s Domstrasse towards the cathedral is part of a double-page drawing made with the sketchbook turned horizontally. This part shows the prospect at street level, while the upper stages of all the buildings occupy folio 89 verso opposite (D30631; Turner Bequest CCCIII 88a), under which the subject is discussed. The main landmark on this page is the obelisk of the Vierröhrenbrunnen fountain towards the right, which stands south of the Rathaus (on the north side of the street towards the left); the statue on top of the obelisk is shown on the opposite page.
For the extensive sequence of Würzburg views in this sketchbook and others elsewhere, see under folio 72 verso (D30596; CCCIII 71).
