With the page turned horizontally, both the upper and lower views show the outskirts of Graz, looking west1 to the Schlossberg, rising north of the cluster of domes and spires in the city’s centre. Turner’s views of Graz are mainly concentrated between folios 41 verso and the present page (D30079–D30092), and were likely made in reverse of the sketchbook’s present foliated order; see under D30079 for further discussion.2 Folio 47 verso opposite and the verso of the present page (D30091, D30093), previously also thought to show Graz, are now identified as views of Ljubljana; see also folios 49 recto and verso (D30094–D30095).
