In 1979 Rauschenberg was making a set of six etchings (the first he ever made) at ULAE, collectively titled ‘The Glacial Decoy Series’, using his own photographs photoetched and printed in sharp, cool colours. While that set was in preparation (it was finished in 1982), he made four related lithographs, much larger than the etchings, with brighter colours and a broader, more expansive overall image. He used similarly clear monotone printing, with the images sometimes reversed and doubled, from his own photographs.
