This A wreck with fishing boats, by Turner. I find when I hear music, I see images, and when I see paintings, I hear music. This painting, for me, is very loud. I can really hear the wind, and it’s just so tempestuous. I’m very inspired by visual art, and I’m particularly inspired by art that really creates a feeling of sound or music. That’s why I like Turner, because he does both. The way that he uses paint, there is a lot of movement there; you feel like you were in the middle of this storm, and it is deafening.
This is Echo Lake, by Peter Doig, and I find Peter Doig a really captivating artist. I love the mystery in his paintings. I love how they take me into another space, another world. And they are very scary, actually, but really beautiful at the same time, and I think that combination of beauty and darkness is something that I try and achieve in my own music
