Each year Tate Britain invites an artist to create a Christmas Tree for the gallery.

This year, Giorgio Sadotti has chosen a Norwegian Spruce but has resisted the tradition of decorating the tree. By presenting it ’undressed’, Sadotti asks us to contemplate the tree’s true beauty and invests it with potential. A bullwhip is coiled at the bottom of the tree. At a performance on Twelfth Night, marking the end of the festive season, the spell of Christmas will be driven out.
