Molly Nesbitt and Tamar Garb took as their starting point the theme ‘Portraiture/Portrayal: Figure/Figuration’. Nesbitt is Professor of Art at Vassar College, USA and a contributing editor to Artforum and October. She is the author of Atget: Seven Albums (1992) and Their Common Sense (2000). Garb is Professor of Art History at University College London, and one of the editors of the Oxford Art Journal. Her publications include Sisters of the Brush (1994) and Bodies of Modernity (1998).
