To mark the opening of a major exhibition, Matisse Picasso, at Tate Modern, two distinguished art historians discussed the art of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.



Elizabeth Cowling is Senior Lecturer, Department of Fine Art, University of Edinburgh; and one the curators of Matisse Picasso. She has published essays on Surrealism, Primitivism and Picasso; and co-curated the exhibitions On Classic Ground (Tate, 1990) and Picasso: Sculptor/Painter (Tate, 1994). Robert Rosenblum is Henry Ittleson Jr. Professor of Modern European Art, at New York University, a curator at the Guggenheim Museum and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and author of many publications on twentieth century art.
