Tate Liverpool is the home of the national collection of modern and contemporary art in the North of England. Join artist Paul Gatenby as he leads a study day at Tate Liverpool, exploring drawing through DLA Piper Series: Constellations, a display of the national collection. Featuring more than 100 works including Cezanne, Picasso, Renoir and Hockney, this collection display is rich with inspiration for all students of art.
Artists draw for many reasons; to learn to see, to record, to plan, be inspired, and of course for sheer enjoyment. This day course is about drawing from art and the approach is twofold; firstly, using drawing as a means of understanding artworks in the Tate displays, and secondly, reinterpreting artworks; finding your own creative response to works in the galleries. Students will analyse drawing processes and techniques, experiment with drawing as a creative medium, and be guided to produce work inspired by artists in the collection display.
Please bring sketchbooks and pencils. Other materials are provided.
Programmed in association with Continuing Education Centre for Lifelong Learning, University of Liverpool.
Although this course takes place at Tate Liverpool, booking is made via the University of Liverpool website.
