Wifredo Lam Competition Image

To celebrate the opening of the The EY Exhibition: Wifredo Lam exhibition at Tate Modern, Audley Travel & Virgin Atlantic will send a lucky winner (and their friend) on a five night escape to Havana with flights included.

Wifredo Lam was born in Cuba in 1902 and spent the early part of his artistic career in Europe. He returned to Havana in 1941 and used his art to explore Cuban culture and identity. His painting style was striking, unique and groundbreaking.

The Trip of a Lifetime

A lot has changed since then, but Cuba remains a unique and beguiling country.  Havana is a labyrinth of crumbling colonial grandeur fuelled by an infections energy and impromptu bursts of music. Havana’s streets are filled with countless vintage cars and there are no advertisements, apart from political exhortations, giving Cuba’s capital a wonderful air of nostalgia. Wars and revolution have done little to damage its heritage making it one of the finest examples of a Spanish colonial city anywhere in the Americas. Your time here will include a visit to the Wifredo Lam Centre of Contemporary Art as well as a walking tour of Old Havana. There will also be plenty of time to soak up the wonderful atmosphere – perhaps taking in the five-mile seafront esplanade known as the Malecón, wandering the winding streets or simply enjoying local food and drink at one of the city’s many cafes and restaurants.

During your time in Havana, you’ll be staying with a local family in a private home – known as ‘casas particulares’. These characterful accommodation options have sprung up in response to the increasing influx of visitors to Cuba. Although the standard of accommodation in these houses is undoubtedly on the simpler side, they are fantastically-located bases which offer a deeper insight into Cuban life at this fascinating time in the country’s history.

This unforgettable prize also includes economy flights from London to Havana with Virgin Atlantic and transfers on arrival in Havana.
