Create your own art inspired by Henri Matisse’s masterpiece The Snail and other works from the national collection displays at Tate Liverpool!
Learn more about Matisse’s cut-outs, and the technique which allowed him to produce works such as The Snail at the age of 83 whilst being confined to his bed. Matisse said of the technique that it ‘allows me to draw in the colour’ and he felt that it really simplified the way he went about his work, opening up a world of new possibilities. The workshop will focus on collage and will include a tour of other works within our gallery which explore this technique, including works by Pablo Picasso, Richard Hamilton and Kurt Schwitters.
Materials will be provided, but please do bring along your own newspaper cuttings, labels, tickets or memorabilia if you wish to personalise your collage.
