This is Propaganda consists of a performance by a female invigilator who sings the work’s title whenever a new visitor enters the gallery space. Acting as an interruption in the normative experience of movement through the gallery spaces and the unreactive presence of museum officials, this work calls the visitor to attention, questioning the easily consumed museum experience. Sehgal disrupts the visitor experience with a self-consciousness that encourages a questioning of the institution, its methods of display, and the role of the artwork in contemporary society.
