A selection of silkscreen paintings by American contemporary painter R.H. Quaytman are displayed in the elegant curved Upper Gallery 2.

Quaytman’s work blurs boundaries between text and image, incorporating optical abstractions, silkscreened photographs, diamond dust and hand-painted trompe l’oeil elements. The artist paints directly onto plywood panels, which are silkscreened with images gathered from all kinds of archives: art historical, institutional, personal and scientific.

While each painting may stand alone, the presentation of them in series, which are described as ‘chapters,’ allows different formal and narrative relationships to slowly become evident.
