The screen is related to a number of works made over the previous three or four years embodying sheets of welded metal. An earlier ‘Large Screen Form’ was in the Venice Biennale 1962, and other ‘Screen Forms’ were in the exhibition at Gimpel Fils in November 1962 (e.g. Nos.6, 8, 10, 11, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25). Adams began welding in 1955 and in these recent ‘Screens’ has suggested their three-dimensional aspect both by boring holes through the welded plates and by inserting rods of varying lengths at right-angles to the main plane… (read more)
