‘The Expulsion’ is the definitive title of this work, though it has on occasions been referred to as ‘The Expulsion from Paradise’. It was immediately preceded by another version in which Adam and Eve are in the foreground, and which is now in a private collection. The artist depicts animals in most of her paintings as she feels that she can relate to them. Her hope has always been that a state of co-existence should exist between man and animals. ‘We lost that and now beasts are used and abused by man-they have no defences. My feelings simply are love and compassion’.
