Purchased from the artist (Grant-in-Aid) 1982
'The photograph shows Dora Maurer...imitating a sculpture by the East German artist Edgar Guttbub. The original black and white photograph was sent to me and I added the red lines and colours. All the colours changed radically in the photographic process. This change I used in the print “Exchange” which shows the postcard describing the colours + the actual colours painted onto the photograph. The original idea was to make a series of these photographs, re-photographing each new printing, and watch the colours gradually move away from the paint colours (adding these each time as a control) but only this first step was made.’ (loc.cit.)
