This series of prints marked South Africa’s first ever qualification to the World Cup Finals at France 1998. Twelve of the prints show football pitches across South Africa. A further eleven show a drawing of a football pitch, each with a text meaning ‘dribble and pass’ in one of South Africa’s official languages, and a quotation from Shakespeare’s Henry V. There is also a photograph of a pitch at Agincourt in France, the site of the battle between the English and the French celebrated in the Shakespeare play, suggesting parallels between football and warfare as an expression of national unity.
