González made a number of studies of peasants at work in the period 1919-20 in green, blue and mauve pastel, on red-brown paper. Some of the same themes were taken up later on in his oil paintings.

The titles are used in the catalogue entries, but the dating has been made more precise wherever possible. (Julio González's drawings are usually dated from about 1934 onwards, but the great majority of the early drawings are undated).]
