In his series Ten Years On, Gupta documents long-term gay relationships from his social circle, in private domestic environments. As he recalls, in the 1970s ‘the definition of homosexuality as a psychic disorder was successfully challenged (…) and the visibility of gay men expanded to unprecedented levels.’ But in the 1980s ‘the arrival of AIDS changed all this. Gay men have come under attack as a group, from the state and its various channels’.
