This etching is the earliest record of the original oil sketch now in the Tate Gallery (N05359), which has come to be known by the title of this print, although it probably belongs to ‘The Happy Marriage’ series. The print is also interesting in that it records Joseph Haynes as a pupil of the painter John Hamilton Mortimer (1740–1779).
