Gary Hume’s Portraits series is comprised of ten prints that explore what goes into making the image of a public icon. This print is based on Hume’s large painting, Francis 1997, a portrait of renowned British painter Francis Bacon.Whereas in the painting, Bacon wore a slightly open and anxious-looking mouth, in this version it has been replaced by pouting, feminine, full red lips. Bacon was best known for the image he presented within the London Soho scene, where he would frequent gay clubs in a leather jacket, with dyed hair and make-up.
