Technique and condition

The artist has designed a wooden strainer around which cotton duck canvas has been stretched.

Layers applied to the stretched fabric have been listed on the back of the strainer; 'Chalk - carbon black - red earth - yellow earth'. These traditional colours have been represented with some modern alternatives. For example, the chalk is actually titanium white. As the note suggests, the paint has been built up in layers coloured in the listed sequence. Winsor and Newton artist's paints were used, with additions of glazing medium consisting of turpentne, damar resin and refined linseed oil.

The painting is in excellent condition.
