McCarthy''s work often emphasises the grotesque and absurd nature of the body. Rocky is a film from early in his career, this version is accompanied by a series of drawings. The artist repeatedly punches himself, a sight that is both disturbing and darkly comic. It can be seen as a metaphor for the artist''s inward pain, as well as a comment on the fascination with violence inflicted upon the body in popular culture.
