Lucignano is a small village in Tuscany. It lies fifteen miles south, south-west of Arezzo. Nicholson made two other drawings in 1974 of towns in Tuscany-‘Certaldo’ and ‘Siena’. All three places are a short distance from each other. Speaking of these line drawings and others like them Nicholson said ‘It's not the drawing that is difficult but finding and recognising the mood.
