Display caption
Ofili’s attention to the sensuous qualities of painting is evident in his use of watercolour in these thirty small-scale portraits. Shown in frontal or profile views, the women are presented as archetypes, highlighting the diversity of black identity. Each portrait is subtly different, celebrating the Afro-hairstyles and colourful clothes of the women.
