Catalogue entry

Finberg calls this building a ‘farmhouse’, although it is possible that a mill wheel is shown below the gable on the left. The same building is shown from further off on folio 53 recto (D09536). These sketches fall between identified views of Okehampton, and may have stood in the West Okement Valley south of the town. (A watermill surviving in Mill Road, south-east of the town centre, is a taller, more regular structure.) For other views of Okehampton, see under folio 43 recto (D09526). The building or buildings on folio 59 recto (D09542) appears similar, but this may be fortuitous.
