Catalogue entry

Here Turner has inscribed a note about the food and drink he consumed on a particular days. It reads: ‘Bread and Cheese. Bottle of Ale | Dinner 2 Small bottles of Stout | Glass of Gin and Water’. Cecilia Powell believes that this note, and that on folio 66 verso (Tate D28652; Turner Bequest CCXCI 66 a), were actually written in England and not whilst Turner was on tour in the Meuse-Moselle region.1
