Turner’s view is south-west from Poole side, with Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour to the left, and Corfe Castle commanding its gap in the ridge of the Purbeck Hills, as also seen in the more distant view on folio 14 recto (D08387). Today there is an unobstructed, closely corresponding view from Labrador Drive, on the shore just east of the town. See the entry for Tate D08826 (Turner Bequest CXXIV 17) in the Corfe to Dartmouth sketchbook for other views of Corfe.
