At the top of this page Turner worked a slight study of the medieval city of Angers, located on the River Maine close to its confluence with the Loire. The city’s medieval walls have been identified in this drawing.1 The sketch continues onto folio 26 recto (D23200; Turner Bequest CCXLVIII 26). Turner made extensive study of Angers in this volume. A list of his drawings of the city is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
