Turner’s notes, including comments on colour, suggest that he had a picture in mind. See Introduction to the sketchbook and note to folio 58 (D06583; Turner Bequest C 53) for his current interest in the rustic narrative pictures of David Wilkie. Folios 60 recto and verso and 61 verso (D06586, D06587, D06589; Turner Bequest C 55, 55a, 56a) also have sketches of cottage or farm interiors with figures.
