Despite being unfinished, indeed little more than a faint outline for the most part, this study includes indications of figures in the right foreground. Turner’s interest in the Picturesque jumble of buildings surrounding the cathedral is apparent in Tate D00372 (Turner Bequest XXII S); and compare the views at Lincoln on this tour (Tate D00342, D00364; XXI O, XXII K), and Louth in the North of England sketchbook of 1797 (Tate D00991; Turner Bequest XXXIV 81).
Verso:
Blank; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
