Catalogue entry

Unlike many of the sketches in this sketchbook, this is a careful and closely observed study. For Geneva see especially folio 5 (D04397) and also folios 35 and 40–4 (D04427, D04434–D04438) where the majority of Turner’s sketches of the city are concentrated. David Hill, in correspondence with the author, has identified this view as taken from the Rhône.1
