Made by Turner for his lectures as Professor of Perspective at the Royal Academy, this is the second of two diagrams depicting a recess and shadows; see note to Diagram 67/68 (Tate D17092; Turner Bequest CXCV 122) for their likely connection with a larger group illustrating the production of shadows.
