Catalogue entry

Turner exhibited a watercolour of Lincoln Cathedral seen from Exchequer Gate at the Royal Academy exhibition of 1795 (British Museum, London; Henderson collection, 1878–12–28–48),1 the composition of which is based on the study Tate D00342 (Turner Bequest XXI O). He no doubt also referred to the present drawing for many of the details of the building.
