Turner lists a ‘Fishing Rod Great Coat Box coats | Painting Box. Canvas’.
Clothes, to take on a trip, are listed on folio 2 of the sketchbook (D06858; Turner Bequest CIV 1) and this note adds further items for work and play. Possibly these were required for Turner’s expedition to North Wales from Tabley represented in the book (see Introduction) or, as they include canvas, for work at Tabley itself on the two views of the house, Tabley, the Seat of Sir J.F. Leicester. Bart.: Windy Day (Tabley House Collection, University of Manchester)1 and Tabley, Cheshire, the Seat of Sir J.F. Leicester, Bart.: Calm Morning (Tate T03878; displayed at Petworth House).2
