Catalogue entry

For Lympne Castle and St Stephen’s Church in this sketchbook see note to folio 53 verso (D10501; Turner Bequest CXL 47a). Here Turner is positioned below the inland cliff on which the buildings stand, near the remains of the Roman fortress, Studfall Castle. For a slighter outline probably of the same subject see folio 55 (D10504; Turner Bequest CXL 49).
