The river and steep banks of the Tyne
are shown bustling with activity. Figures can be seen carrying out a number of different occupations. The view includes many distinguishing features of the area. Newcastle is on the right of the picture.
Its Norman castle, All Saint's Church and the steeple of the cathedral feature in
the skyline. Gateshead is to the left of
the river. The Union Jack flag which is seen flying at the extreme right side
of the print adds another flourish of patriotism to this topographical scene.
