Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled most of this page with a sketch of the western façade of Panthéon building in Paris. The sketch of the dome and cupola along with some of the building’s inscriptions continues over onto the bottom edge of folio 9 verso opposite (D24184; Turner Bequest CCLVII 9a). Several pages of the volume feature studies of this monument to France’s glorious dead, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook Introduction.
