Catalogue entry

This page contains part of a landscape composition depicting the town of Moncalieri and the River Po from the west. Moncalieri lies approximately five miles south of Turin and Turner seems to have made a separate short excursion from the city in order to see it. His viewpoint for this sketch is the western bank of the river, looking north and east towards Moncalieri and the hills beyond. The road lies in the foreground, running parallel with the riverbank. The drawing spills over onto the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 18 (D14178; Turner Bequest CLXXIV 17.
For a list of further views of Moncalieri see folio 17 (D14176; Turner Bequest CLXXIV 16).
