Initially the Cooke brothers intended
to execute all of the plates for Southern Coast themselves but as publication dates loomed they found they were unable to complete them in time. Other engravers of 'Turner's School' were therefore employed to take over some of the designs. These men were sensitive to the complexities
of working with Turner. Ramsgate is the work of Robert Wallis. Wallis had already completed engravings after the artist for Provincial Antiquities of Scotland and went on to become a stalwart regular in many other Turner projects.
