Catalogue entry

These two sketches depict the harbour at Dieppe. At the top is a large group of figures standing on the quayside near the stern of a boat. Turner made studies of similar looking figures on folio 5 (Tate D24508; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 5). The second sketch depicts a boat preparing to leave the harbour. Ian Warrell has suggested that the cliffs to the right may be those at Le Pollet opposite Dieppe.1
For references to Turner’s other sketches of Dieppe made on this tour, see folio 1 verso (D24501; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 1v).
