Catalogue entry

This series of seven finely executed views depicts the Moselle valley near Treis and its ancient feudal castle. Turner records two figures towards top right, apparently in the process of ‘mending a wall’, and notes that the colour of the Burg Treis (‘B T’) is a ‘Beautiful... Light Grey’.
Treis is shown again on Tate D19800, D19801, D20233, D24735, D28315, D28354, D28355, D28557, D28998; Turner Bequest CCXVI 125, 125v, CCXX Z, CCLIX 170, CCLXXXIX 13, CCXCI 9a, 10, 11, CCXCII 50.
