Catalogue entry

As set out under folio 7 verso (D12134), there are nearly thirty pages of cloud studies in this sketchbook, some, as here, being annotated with colours and other observations; the reading of Turner’s longest inscription here should be regarded as slightly tentative, as it is inscribed with a soft or blunt pencil, making some letter forms rather blurred. The drawing, inverted relative to the foliation, continues on folio 74 recto opposite (D12230; CLIV a 73).
