Catalogue entry

These leaves seem to belong to some flowering or berry-bearing shrub; there are more on folio 28 verso of the sketchbook (D10633). Perhaps sketched at Richmond, they might be ideas for foreground vegetation in England: Richmond Hill, on the Prince Regent’s Birthday (Tate N00502)1 exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1819; see notes to folio 10 verso (D10601) for background to the picture and related drawings in this book.
