The two sketches on this page represent views taken from the road leading to the summit of the Camaldoli Hill. The upper vista depicts the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius whilst the lower shows the distant island of Capri framed by the steep sides of a gorge to the east of Camaldoli. For a more detailed discussion and further views from Camaldoli see folio 73 (D15871; Turner Bequest CLXXXV 71).
