Catalogue entry

This is the right part of a double-page spread continued from folio 11 verso (D11578; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 32a, now bound opposite), recording the view north from Conishead Park with Coniston Old Man in the distance to the left, the Fairfield group in the centre distance and the High Street group to the right. At the far right is the Folly near Conishead Priory. Turner made sketches of the Priory from two different viewpoints in the Yorkshire 2 sketchbook (Tate D11174, D11173; Turner Bequest CXLV 86, 85a). The present writer has dated these sketches to Tuesday 6 August 1816.
