Curator's tour: Ruin Lust with Amy Concannon

9 May 2014 at 19.30–21.30

Joseph Mallord William Turner, Tintern Abbey: The Crossing and Chancel, Looking towards the East Window 1794. Tate.

Join Ruin Lust curator Amy Concannon for a tour of the exhibition as she traces the 18th-century craze for ruins through to the 19th century, observing the trend as it manifested itself in literature, art and tourism. The tour will focus on the prints of classical ruins by Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi, William Gilpin's travel writing and the fame of Tintern Abbey, as well as the work of British artists inspired by the lust for ruins, such as JMW Turner, John Constable and John Sell Cotman.
