Description
Letter signed by Paul Philippe Cret of the 'Barnes Foundation' to Jacques Lipchitz on details of the decorations commissioned to him.
Full text (in translation):
'Mr Jacques Lipchitz,
9 Allee des Pins, Boulogne sur Seine, France.
Dear Sir,
Your letters sent on the 7th of January asks for a few details regarding the drawings of buildings for 'Barnes Foundation'.
1: I don't think that we can notch the rock on the oval alcove without breaking the rock. The easiest way is to completely remove the unit in Coutarnoux and to replace it with your bas-relief in Pouillenay. This bas-relief can have any profile that you like.
The maximum thickness of the bas-relief is given on the sketch attached.
The ellipse shape with details on its sizes. While taking dimensions in person, Madam Barnes founds that the stonecutter moved away slightly from the dimensions of the sketch, consequently the two dimensions need to be corrected as it is shown in red on the sketch.
For the vase, please find attached a sketch of the alcove with the main dimensions.
Best wishes, PPCW.Paul P Cret'
