Portrait and figure painter. Born 8 October 1895 in Cape Town, South Africa. Studied at the Slade School 1914. In the Forces 1917–19. First one-man exhibition at the Carfax Gallery 1920; also exhibited at the Goupil Gallery. Member of the N.E.A.C. 1920, National Society 1930, R.P. 1936. Has worked among the natives in South Africa but has also lived for considerable periods in England. Official War Artist with the South African Forces 1940–5.
